Career Preparation

What separates Duisenberg school of finance’s career preparation is the sheer frequency of contact you have with industry leaders and recruiters. This repeated contact gives you the upper-hand in providing you with an accurate insight into the financial industry workplace, in growing a useful network, and in landing your first job post-studies.

Choosing your Career Path

The very first step to a successful career in finance is to know yourself. This not only involves knowing your skills and abilities, but also knowing what you want out of life, your goals, drives and interests. It is about making choices and knowing how to achieve your goals. It is crucial that before you start climbing the ladder of success that you clearly know and understand the steps necessary to bring you to the top. It is also important to have clear goals to give direction and to know what to expect every step of your way to the top. Before the start of the programme, all students complete CareerLeader, a comprehensive, web-based career assessment. It is a tool which measures interests, abilities and key work motivators. Results are discussed in a personal coaching session with the CRC.

CV and Cover Letter Review
The CRC offers you the opportunity to get valuable feedback on resumes, CVs, and cover letters. A cover letter and CV is your first introduction to your potential employer. Standing out from the crowd, tailoring your motivation and resume are thus an important first step to a successful job application. All resumes will be included in a Resume Book which will be distributed to our extended network.

Marketing Yourself Workshops
Knowing how to market yourself to potential employers is half the battle in securing a job. For this reason, Duisenberg school of finance and the Career Resource Centre offer coaching on how to best market yourself. In ‘Marketing Yourself’ Workshops, you will learn how to effectively present yourself to companies and how to build, maintain and utilise a strong social and professional network. You will also learn how to best position yourself in your personal resume and cover letter, how to deliver the perfect ‘elevator pitch’, as well as other relevant and useful tips.

Interview Simulations
Many jobs are won or lost at the interview phase. Preparation for an interview is crucial. The CRC organises interview simulations to best prepare you for that very important job interview. Furthermore, you will learn valuable negotiation and management communication skills necessary for follow-up discussions.

One-to-one Coaching
Through a very personal approach, the CRC will stimulate self-direction and individually mentor you throughout your Master's programme, until you set foot into your new career in finance. Your career success remains your own responsibility and you must take your own initiative, but the school’s Career Resource Centre will continuously support you throughout the process. Your career success is a high priority at Duisenberg school of finance.

Career Library

Looking for more information to help you in your job or internship search, or just want to pass some time scouting for attractive career opportunities? You will be granted free access to an online career library, where you can find detailed information and news about companies, careers, salary information and useful career guides.

Job Vacancies & Internship Oppportunities
A summer internship is a compulsory component of your Master’s degree at Duisenberg school of finance. Many internship placements lead to full-time employment post-studies. Accepting such a job offer is of course entirely your decision after careful consideration. The CRC actively maintains a database of job vacancies and internship opportunities. We will assist you in your search for an internship or job vacancy application bearing in mind your ambition, skills knowledge, experience and set goals.
